Wander The Map follows the adventures of Jenna and Micah. Jenna plans the trips and makes neat travel related goods available on Etsy and Micah is a photographer and videographer. Together, they share their stories of adventures near and far, always accompanied with some great photos or videos. We took a few minutes recently to chat with Jenna about their site, travel and, of course, points and miles:

What led you to start your site?

I’ve always loved to write and I’ve been a travel addict since I was very young, so it all just fell into place a couple of years ago. I wanted a way to share our travels and tips with others, and the idea of starting a travel site was an exciting endeavor!

Tell Us About Your Recent Trip To Iceland!

It was absolutely amazing—we are in love with Iceland and are trying to plan a return visit again soon. The people were so nice, the music was great and the landscapes were so stunning and diverse.

Along with road tripping to many of the famous sites, we went glacier hiking, ice climbing, white water canoeing, and snorkeling. Iceland is not short on adventure and activity, that’s for sure!

Does your photography drive your travel or do you simply try to effectively capture the places you go?

Both—there are places that we choose to visit because they are so visually stunning that we want to capture them on film, but also, the idea of exploring a new location is always exciting and intriguing.

How did you first begin to discover the power of miles and points programs?

It all started when I signed us up for Delta credit cards when we were in college, and we redeemed our miles for a getaway to Seattle. But, it wasn’t until we signed up for the British Airways 100,000 mile card that we officially became hooked.

What’s the most outrageous value you’ve received by redeeming miles and points?

I would have to say that using Choice Hotel reward points for our 4 nights in Norway was the best value we’ve received to date. We ended up scoring suites in 2 different hotels for 2 nights each (beginning and end of our trip).

These suites would have cost us over $500/night if we paid with cash, but thankfully we were able to use our points instead! Both hotels were located right in the center of town, and we ended up in the “King’s Suite” at one of the hotels!

How do family and friends look at your travel hobby?

They think I’m slightly nuts because I always have some trip or mile earning scheme up my sleeve! But, when I explain to people how we usually use miles and points for our trips, they are intrigued and want to know more.

What is the most important piece of advice you’d offer to someone who wants to see more of the world but doesn’t know how to get started?

Make it a priority in your life. If you really want to travel, it is possible, but you have to make a point to start planning a trip and dedicating time and resources to it. Once you make travel a priority, you will see how easy it can be to get out and see the world!

Thanks to Jenna for taking the time to share her story with us! You can head over to Wander The Map to follow along with her and Micah’s adventures.
